Partnerships with Christians in South Africa and Pakistan

Sewing Cooperative in Sovenga, South Africa The Thusanang sewing cooperative in Sovenga, South Africa, is an ongoing mission of the Church of the Covenant.

Our congregation has a relationship with the Bethel Mission and Rev. Kgotsupo Ephriam Leputu in South Africa. Among other developments, Covenant has raised funds to assist in the construction of a church in Sehlale.

The Christian Study Center in Rawalpindi-Islamabad, Pakistan, has been a partner of our congregation since the mid 1980's. The Center offers a theological program for lay people, works cooperatively with various Pakistani human rights groups and labor unions, and strives to build Christian-Muslim relations in a country that is increasingly torn by religious, sectarian and ethnic bigotry.

  • Support of Joining Hands Against Hunger
The goal of Joining Hands Against Hunger (JHAH) is to connect PC(USA) congregations with overseas churches and community groups in their fight against the root causes of hunger. JHAH relationships are built on mutual solidarity—with Presbyteries and congregations learning about the conditions and causes of poverty and hunger in a given country, and then listening and responding to a network's assessment and plan of action. Responses may take the form of education, mutual visits, advocacy, or other actions of solidarity as they address together the things that keep people poor. Susanne Carter and Ken Jones

Our Presbytery, the Presbytery of the Western Reserve, is networking with Joining Hands Against Hunger in South Africa. By supporting JHAH, Covenant is maintaining long-standing ties with the Reverends Ken Jones and Susanne Carter who are now working under the auspices of JHAH in the province of the Eastern Cape.
