    LIFE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

    Covenant Tutoring Programs

Tutoring at John Hay High School The Church of the Covenant is an official partner of Daniel E. Morgan Elementary School, which is located in the Cleveland Municipal School District. Covenant volunteers help first-graders learn to read at the school on weekday afternoons.

The Saturday Morning Tutoring Program, which is held at the church, helps students from many schools in the Cleveland area. Volunteers from the congregation and from the community assist students with basic reading and math, proficiency test preparation, and homework assignments.

You're encouraged to visit Covenant's Tutoring Website, which describes our tutoring programs in more detail.

    ESL Conversation Partners

The English as a Second Language Center at Case invites interested Covenant volunteers to meet weekly with students to help them improve their English language skills. By talking with the students over a cup of coffee, the volunteers learn about another culture without leaving Cleveland.

    Bridging the Gap

They receive instruction in how to complete a job application, how to interview for a job, and other basic life and survival skills. A represenative from Covenant volunteers in the Bridging the Gap Program.

    Partners in Action

    PROVIDING DECENT HOUSING

Covenant's Habitat volunteers put their faith into action! Habitat for Humanity

The Church of the Covenant provides volunteers, food, and money toward building homes with Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity.

A team of Covenant volunteers works on-site one Saturday per month in collaboration with other congregations. They not only build homes--they're building interfaith connections, strengthening neighborhoods, and changing lives!

Helpers are needed for the new Habitat for Humanity House. Habitat has the foundation completed on the new house on E. 110th Street. They are now ready to do the framing and helpers are needed. Covenant's day to work on the Habitat house will be on the second Tuesday of each month from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you have any questions, please contact Mildred at 216-421-0482.

    New Life Community

New Life Community is a faith-based, interdenominational, non-profit organization whose mission is to empower persons in homeless, jobless families to make the transition to independence and self-sufficiency.

This shelter, which is located in the former St. Cecila Catholic School on Kinsman Road, is an apartment-style housing complex that is a home where single parents and their children can stay for up to four months.

Volunteer opportunities include teaching the residents money management or computer skills, helping them prepare for job interviews or find apartments, tutoring the children, and preparing rooms for new families.
