Today we left and embarked on our journey to Kentucky.  Leaving the Church today at 12:00 noon, and reaching our destination around 11:00 p.m.  This is what I define a long trip.  Not knowing what’s coming or lays ahead of us, this will be interesting.  Riding with Cassie, Anne, Justin and Angela was awesome.  All of us read, slept, ate or just enjoyed each other's company.  The best part was when Cassie started taking pictures of us in the dark, and not only that but with the flash.  TOUCH! As we arrived at our final destination, I felt people were slightly relieved.  Ha, it meant rest w/o back pains.  On this trip, I truly hope to find who I am spiritually, emotionally and well completely.  There are some burdens in life I may never get the answers for, but I hope to find them here.  Being with my many close pals is fun.  For I can hopefully open up to them, but for now I will leave with this. - Grace

Today we got up after our first night in our trailer at Crank’s Creek.  We had breakfast and left for our first work project.  We took out a porch on the outside of a church and started rebuilding it.  It’s amazing how different it is from our Church of the Covenant, at first everyone didn’t know what to do.  Ed helped us and guided us.  Bobby came by a few times with supplies to put tiles up on the inside of the church.  I soon missed my home in Chesterland because of its non-sulfur water and fewer bugs.  We relaxed in the trailer and then went to dinner.  On the way to the lake we got lost a few times, but it was worth it because the lake was beautiful and relaxing.  Some of the girls and I ended up mashing our hair and faces in it.  It was a lot better and probably cleaner than the showers.  We got back and we started doing reiki on each other.  I had never had reiki before--it was very relaxing and soothing. – Anne

Today we woke up, got dressed and left the trailer around 8:30 and 9 am.  We ate bagels and headed back to the church to finish our work.  The ceiling tiling was completed, and while the church was being cleaned, Grace and I helped two of Bobby’s grandsons empty a truckful of roof shingles; it was tough & long.  Later, everyone ate lunch, and AJ and I chilled in the van because we felt lazy!  (smile) soon, everyone but Ed, (who's a beast at every task) Angela and Christina finished the porch and left to start a new project, painting Miss Pat’s house.  Before we started, AJ & I rode haystacks and unsuccessfully tried to explore a deserted school.  The haystacks were very fabulous. Soon we started to paint Pat’s house in an orangey brown like color.  Then we went back and some left to make dinner while everyone else chilled at the house.  (Our trailer).  Later we ate dinner and went to the lake, and returned home to sleep.  AJ and I enjoyed the lake’s byous. – Author Unknown

Today we started painting the main house.  We worked hard in the morning, but come the afternoon, our enthusiasm had diminished.  We finished both porches, which took forever; afterwards we went to the lake and brought in the air mattresses.  AJ and Lucy took the mattresses way out into the lake.  Angela, Lucy, Anne and I were taking our baths and got some interesting comments from the locals, such as “This ain’t a bath tub”.

After cooking our meal and hearing some local blue grass music, oh joy.  When we went to Wal-Mart, I dropped a vase.  Luckily, it was plastic but I still got some interesting looks.  We came back and said prayers and most people went to sleep.  A few of us though started to talk about politics and world events, but finally we went to sleep. - Cassie

After we had a slightly earlier start than usual (8:00 am), we went and ate our last breakfast at Crank’s Creek.  We worked hard in the morning to get the front of the house we were painting completed.  Despite unstable ladders and paint dropping on places it shouldn’t, for the most part we got it done.  The house looked interesting with black, turquoise, and orange/yellow combined.  After a quick lunch with lots of jelly, we went back to work and dared to go clean off at the lake instead of going to Cumberland Gap.  We cooked out of the lake and had a great time.  Then we visited Becky and Hiram.  Becky told us some harrowing yet encouraging tales of past years.  Then we got together and after Bible reading, we discussed the trip and “secret angels”.  Despite differing opinions of others, I believe that we accomplished a lot on this mission trip, and really worked hard and helped a lot of people.  The trailer almost feels like a home now… with peoples’ stuff everywhere and clean floors.  I think we are all glad we went on this trip.  - Justin
