Our Church Building

The story of God's covenants with the people of God was the theme of the merger of three congregations in 1920 to form the Church of the Covenant.

The building, dedicated in 1911 by two of the predecessor congregations, was designed by Ralph Adams Cram and is a fine example of Gothic Revival architecture.

reredos woodcarving

The reredos carving in the chancel carries out the covenant theme, as do the stained-glass windows in the nave, by presenting characters and events taken from the Hebrew Scriptures and Christian Testament.

The building is in full use by community and congregation groups each day. The education wing was dedicated in 1972.

The church has recently been made quite accessible for the handicapped through major renovations. The changes have included a new elevator, a lift, ramps and unisex restrooms, all making the major areas of the church accessible to those with mobility problems. Many of these features are clustered around the new McGaffin Tower entrance shown here.
